Ramadhan 9 – Al Ghashiyah 17-19 – Parents

Asalam aleikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. You never prayed for the parents you were given but chances are they prayed for you. We should all take a minute to just pause and think about what life has been with them and then another to think about what it would have been without them. Whether Allah has blessed you with both or one of them, be grateful. Even if both were taken back to Allah still be thankful because now more than ever you can do something for them. You can start trying to pay the debt you owe them by praying for them; praying that Allah has Mercy on them, that He protects them from jahannam and grants them the most beautiful Jannah. You have a chance to be good and practice all that they taught you and teach it to the next so they may keep reaping (Sadaqat Jariah).

Many times we read in the Quran where Allah elevates the parents so far up regardless of whether or not they are muslim. You must obey them as long as what they are telling you to do does not go againgst the religion in anyway. And as hard as this may be to understand, when you become a parent and you feel the love you feel for your children in your heart, you will understand just how much our parents have had to give and how little we appreciate. Growing up I was not that close to my mum especially but right now I’m not sure I can function without her SubhanAllah!

So this weekend grab mum a bouquet of flowers, take them out for iftar, spend some time with them or just call them and say thank you or I love you. Believe me it will go a long way. And bare in mind, your children copy all you do. They will treat you as you treat your parents best believe.

And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.”

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”

Ya Rahman pour Your Rahma on our parents Ya Allah. Forgive them their shortcomings and guide them to the best of ways. Take them when you are pleased with them. Have Mercy on them as they still have mercy on us. Provide for them from sources they could never imagine. Ease for them all their difficulties. Grant them peace, grant them ahappy, healthy life. Ya Shafi’ heal all their discomforts.  Make us the best of children to them and enable us to remember and pray for them even after you take them from us. As hard as it may seem, make us better parents to our children through their wonderful examples.

Al Ghashiyah

Then do they not look at the camels – how they are created?

And at the sky – how it is raised?

And at the mountains – how they are erected?
