Ramadhan 8 – Al Ghashiyah 14-16 – Show me your friends – Rabanna 3

Asalam aleikum warahmatullah warahmatullah. In Sha Allah ramadhan is going well. Days are flying by so fast SubhanAllah!!! I’m sure we’ve all heard that age old saying ‘Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are’. Let this ramadhan be a chance for us to sieve out the people we spend our time with as they will make us or break us. Many of us want to believe that we are stranger than all this but for as long as we are human, we are inevitably influenced by those around us so we have to learn to be extra careful who we award that chance.

In an interview I was listening to with one of my favorite poets Boonaa Mohammed, he stated that the same attention that we pay when picking out a spouse is the same attention we should pay when picking friends. Not everyone deserves a seat at that table so who will you have sit at yours?

On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (radiAllahu anhu), the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said:
“The likeness of a righteous friend and an evil friend, is the likeness of a (musk) perfume seller and a blacksmith. As for the perfume seller, he may either bestow something on you, or you may purchase something from him, or you may benefit from his sweet smell. And as for the blacksmith, he may either burn your clothes, or you may be exposed to his awful smell.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Ya Allah please make us the best of friends to those who you have blessed us with in our lives and I beg you Ya Allah that you also grant us the best people in our lives. Grant us people who will benefit us in some way on the dunya and Akhira, people with whom we shall walk on the straight path and remind one another of Your Greatness and Mercy. People who seek no material gain from us but rather seek to see us happy and close to you and I beg you Ya Allah that you make us that person to someone aswell. Ya Wali’ you are the best of friends. Please make us your close companion as there is no companion ship greater than that.

Al Ghashiyah 14-16

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ – 88:14

And cups put in place

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ – 88:15

And cushions lined up

وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ – 88:16

And carpets spread around.

Rabanna 3.

9. Our Lord! Thou art He that will gather mankind Together against a day about which there is no doubt; for Allah never fails in His promise. [3:9]

10. Our Lord! We have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, and save us from the agony of the Fire [3:16]

Rabbana innana amanna faghfir lana dhunuubana wa qinna ‘adhaban-Naar

رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

[آل عمران :16]

11. Our Lord! We believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger. Then write us down among those who bear witness [3:53]

Rabbana amanna bima anzalta wattaba ‘nar-Rusula fak-tubna ma’ash-Shahideen

رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا بِمَا أَنزَلَتْ وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَِ

[آل عمران :53]

12. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and anything We may have done that transgressed our duty: Establish our feet firmly, and help us against those that resist Faith [3:147]

Rabbana-ghfir lana dhunuubana wa israfana fi amrina wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘alal qawmil kafireen
