Asalam aleikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh
In Sha Allah you all had a good weekend. Alhamdulillah I had a good one. On Saturday the hadith in class was:
المُؤْمِنُ مِرَآةُ المُؤْمِنِ
“One believer is a mirror to another.” [Narrated by Abu Daud]
Simple yet very powerful hadith SubhanAllah! It can be looked at in different ways:
- Being a mirror means a believer will see the qualities of a believer and try to emulate them or correct them. We do not know who is looking at us. We do not know what they are copying from us. Remember any good that someone copies from you even with out your knowledge, you get rewarded for it without reducing that persons rewards and same goes for the bad. Whatever bad is copied from you even without your knowledge and it is acted upon, you get a sin without reducing the sin of the person who has done it. Be very careful. We are all someone’s role model. Someone looks up to you. Your child, family, friends, even strangers. So show the right example.
- When you see a fault in your brother, advise them with hikmah. Advise them politely and help them remove whatever wrong it is just like you look in the mirror and try to iron out whatever imperfection you see on yourself before you step out.
A third meaning is that the believer appears to his brother according to his brother’s inward state. If his heart is pure then he sees his brothers as being pure of heart like himself, and he holds a good opinion of them. If, however, his heart is sick he sees his brothers as being like him and he holds a bad opinion of them. The believer thus projects what is in his heart onto his brothers. >>Habib `Abdullah bin Husayn bin Tahir (may Allah have mercy upon him and benefit us by him)
I also found another version of the hadith.
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The believer is a mirror to his faithful brother. He protects him against loss and defends him behind his back.”
Abu Huraira said, “The believer is a mirror to his brother. If he sees something wrong in him, he should correct it.”

May Allah continue to guide us and make us good examples. May He guide towards that which He likes and far away from that which will earn us His wrath.
